GRAVITY (Gang Reduction and Violence Intervention Targeting Youth) represents a partnership between law enforcement, health care, and social services designed to offer programs and support to at-risk youth of all ages with the goal of prevention, intervention, and suppression of gang activity. The programs that fall under the GRAVITY initiative are wide-ranging, but all have the common goal of ending gang violence in communities, and especially among youth.
The mission of GRAVITY is to offer gang and violence prevention, intervention, and suppression programs to at-risk youth, and to coordinate multi-agency communications and activities to respond more holistically to the problems associated with gang activity.
GRAVITY's primary goals are to:
- Reduce firearm and gang-related violence
- Provide diversion and support-based rehabilitation to individuals already involved in the justice system
- Provide families with partnership and support
- Foster community relationships
- Increase coordination and communication to reduce gang activity in Greenville
