Communications

The Communications Division is the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for the City of Greenville, answering all calls for police, fire and medical emergencies in the city. In 2019, Communications personnel answered approximately 250,000 telephone calls and dispatched approximately 102,000 calls for service.

Communications follows the standards and guidelines of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO). Communications personnel are trained to provide the best service to our community and are ready to respond in an emergency. In 2019, they completed over 11,000 hours of training to maintain operational effectiveness.

The Communications Division has become one of the most technologically advanced police/fire communications centers in the Upstate, with equipment for computer aided dispatching, interoperable radio equipment, reverse 911 capabilities and the public safety camera system. These tools help provide efficient services to the public and first responders and require personnel with the ability to understand and utilize advanced systems.

RapidSOS is one of newest technological advancements used by the division to assist with location identification. This tool allows Communications personnel to more effectively locate a situation when the caller is unsure where they are.
